Hi there! My name is Berry Dakara, a Nigerian woman who lives in Atlanta, USA and I have the most energetic soon-to-be threenage daughter. I also happen to be the founder and host of the Mommy Oyoyo podcast.

In 2016 I publicly shared (on Youtube and my lifestyle blog) that I had been trying to conceive for almost a year and a half without success. We had even gone through an expensive IUI (intra-uterine insemination) procedure that did not work. While in the middle of the waiting period, it occurred to me that there were so many other women like me who were also struggling but felt like they were alone and couldn't speak up about their struggles - they were suffering in silence. That was why I decided to talk openly about my trying to conceive - and in a way, was the beginning of the Mommy Oyoyo podcast.

You see, African women are taught by society to be quiet. We are not meant to talk about certain topics. We certainly cannot complain about the roller-coaster that is motherhood. Well, this Modern African Mother has decided to SPEAK UP and SPEAK OUT! If you're looking for a podcast about parenting or motherhood from an African voice, you have come to the right place!

The Mommy Oyoyo podcast officially started in June 2019 and is a safe space for the Modern African woman to talk about ANYTHING and EVERYTHING relating to Motherhood. We have covered topics that range from Divorce to Homeschooling, Mum Guilt to Being a Single Mother, Trying to Conceive due to Endometriosis and PCOS, Giving Birth like the Hebrew Woman, Raising Biracial Children and so much more!
